Music Reports, Inc. (MRI) was
originally formed as a joint venture with the Television Music
License Committee to assist local television stations in their
legal effort to obtain workable Per Program Licenses from the
performing rights societies. MRI was instrumental in
developing data regarding the stations' use of music in their
different program genres, as well as in helping the Committee
demonstrate the feasibility of an efficient and inexpensive
per program license service.
MRI now operates independently of the TMLC and provides ASCAP,
BMI and SESAC per program license administration services to
over 400 stations. In its capacity as per-program
administrator, MRI tracks and researches music use, calculates
license fees, resolves suspense and dispute issues and
electronically submits monthly reports to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC.
MRI also actively assists stations in the negotiation and
administration of source and direct licenses covering music
used in local and syndicated television programming.
MRI clients include stations owned by the ABC, NBC, CBS,
Hearst-Argyle, Gannett, Belo, Raycom, Scripps, Post-Newsweek,
Local TV, Sinclair, Sunrise, Gray, Allbritton, Hubbard,
Quincy, Cordillera, Freedom, Nexstar, Media General, LIN,
Meredith, Journal, Hoak, Duhamel, Clear Channel, McGraw-Hill,
Young, Cox, Dispatch, Emmis and Schurz station groups.
